about the production
The play is based on the between two wars realist novel by Slovak author Janko Jesenský (1874 - 1945). Besides the ensemble of the Slovak National Theatre, two protagonists of the GUnaGU alternative theatre (V. Klimáček as an author and co-director, and Oľga Belešová as an actress) took part in the staging. Their contribution is well visible in the playful, slightly nostalgic and ironic expression of performance.
Jesenský's sharp satirical view of the Slovak snobs acquired thus new dimensions which modernized the work both from the thematic and stylistic points of view. The unique combination of a classical and alternative theatres resulted in unexpected charm fluency and playfulness of the performance.
