about the production

The acting group "Mulatság" (Entertainment) was founded in spring ´89 with the intention to introduce the play by S. Mrożek, an East European king of absurdity, which title came to be the name of the group. Members of the group – János Bán, György Dörner and Sándor Gáspár – graduates of the same year at the dramatic school in Budapest, had success some time ago with their diploma performance of lonesco´s play Stylistic Exercises, staged in the József Katona Theatre. Through the repertory policy of numerous Hungarian theatres, many young actors do not have adequate opportunities to utilize their talent and possibilities. György Dörner and Sándor Gáspár left the institutional theatre precisely for this reason. János Bán stayed in the József Katona Theatre where he has played many characters, most recently Khlestakov in Gogol´s Auditor. Our spectators certainly remember him from the famous movie Vesničko má středisková by J. Menzl). Director Árpád Árkosi (1948), graduate of the technical university, actor and director, at the present time chief director of the Szeged Theatre, put together old partners in a staging of Mrożek´s work, which represented a great event in their career of artists and in the whole theatre community. The performance was sponsored by the Hungarian Television and the Petöfi theatre in Veszprem. The premiére took place on 14th of October 1989 on the stage of the Játekszin Theatre in Veszprém.
